My comp cant play *.mpg files(I could before this) with WMP but if I change its extension to *.mpa i

The error message is

"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player."

My comp cant play *.mpg files(I could before this) with WMP but if I change its extension to *.mpa it can.?violin

Open up windows explorer and go to tools%26gt;folder options%26gt;file types and see what the .mpg file is associated with.

If it's not associated with media player, reassociate it.
